CAN I PLAY AT THE CLUB ON A PAY AS YOU GO BASIS?

Grafton is a members only club and does not offer any pay as you go bookings. You need to become a member to be able to book courts.

HOW LONG IS THE PEAK TENNIS WAITING LIST?

As of March 2024 the peak waiting list for tennis has 180+ names on it.  This means the wait time for anyone joining the waiting list is likely to be 2+ years.

CAN I JOIN A TENNIS TEAM?

We participate in the Surrey Tennis Leagues with entries for a number of mens’, ladies’ and mixed teams. If you are interested in joining a team, please contact Murray Sutton or Alex Kaminski for further details. 

Please note that only peak tennis members many play for a team.

CAN I JOIN A SQUASH TEAM?

We have three mens teams. If you are interested in joining, please contact Ashley Merchant for further details.

CAN I VISIT THE CLUB BEFORE JOINING?

Prospective members are welcome to join attend Sunday social to have a hit and meet other members before joining.

We are unable to arrange for anyone to be available to admit prospective members outside of Sunday social as the club is entirely volunteer run.

HOW MUCH DOES MEMBERSHIP COST?

Tennis

Adult peak: £310 (currently operating a waiting list)

Adult off-peak: £185 (currently operating a waiting list)

Squash

Adult peak: £200

Adult off-peak: £139

Adult joint: £360

There are also various junior and student memberships available.

DO YOU OFFER A TRIAL PERIOD?

Prospective members are welcome to attend the Sunday social for tennis and/or squash to try out the courts and see the facilities on offer.

Tennis social runs from 2.00-4.00pm (1pm in Winter) and squash from 4.45 -7.00pm on Sundays.

For tennis just turn up but for squash please let us know in advance if you will be attending.

CAN I BRING A GUEST?

Our policy welcomes members to bring occasional guests, although we encourage returning guests to join. Guests may play up to 5 times a year and a £5 fee is payable via MyCourts.

Guests may only play at off-peak times.

HOW DO I FIND SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH?

We are a very social club and encourage all members to get involved in the various events, leagues, tournaments and social sessions held to get to know others. 

Tennis members: 

  • Social sessions are held every Wednesday from 6pm and Sunday from 2pm (1pm in the winter). All standards are welcomed and a mix-in format is played so everyone is guaranteed some play. 
  • Single box leagues run throughout the year and are a great way to get regular playing time with players of a similar standard. To join, please email graftontennisleagues@gmail.com and you will be entered into a newbie league and then slotted into a subsequent league at the suitable level.
  • There are tournaments throughout the year.
  • We have a WhatsApp group where you can post a message asking if anyone wants to play. Members are keen and finding an opponent is easy.

Squash members: 

  • Social sessions are held every Sunday from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm. All standards are welcomed and a mix-in format is played so everyone is guaranteed some play.
  • To enter the singles box leagues, which run monthly, please contact Harry Parkes to discuss which league would be most appropriate.
  • There are tournaments throughout the year.
  • We have a WhatsApp group where you can post a message asking if anyone wants to play. Members are keen and finding an opponent is easy.
HOW DO I BOOK A COURT?

You must become a member to be able to book a court. Tennis and squash courts are booked via Mycourts.

Courts are bookable 14 days in advance. When booking, please enter those who you are playing with and only book when matches are confirmed to maximise court availability for all members.

HOW DO I USE THE LIGHTS/FLOODLIGHTS?

Tennis floodlights come on 10 mins before MyCourts bookings depending on the time.

Squash lights are operated via tokens which cost £5 and can be purchased from the token machine in the squash building. Note: Only contactless payment is accepted.

ARE THERE RULES REGARDING CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR?

We do not impose any strict guidelines for clothing but please wear appropriate sports gear for tennis and squash. However, for your own safety and the protection of the courts, please ensure footwear and soles are non-marking, not ridged or studded and are tennis or squash trainers accordingly.

 

COURT ETIQUETTE: WHERE CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT IT?

Grafton is a relaxed and progressive club with a strong social camaraderie. As a result, we don’t enforce strict etiquette – mainly because we don’t need to as everyone is respectful of each other, honest and adheres to the norms you would expect on a tennis or squash court. 

If you are new to either sport, feel free to ask other members or email the club for more information. If you see any behaviour you don’t think is acceptable, please feel free to contact Murray Sutton, Tim Bannerjee or someone on the committee.

CAN JUNIORS BOOK COURTS?

Yes, juniors can book courts in the same way adults can.

CAN I HIRE THE CLUB FOR A PRIVATE EVENT?

The club is no longer available for hire.

CAN I HIRE RACKETS/BALLS?

Grafton does not offer any equipment for hire. Members and any guests must bring all the equipment they require wit them when they come to the club.

The only exception is for Squash57 where equipment is available to use on request.

CAN I TAKE OUT MEMBERSHIP FOR LESS THAN A YEAR?

All memberships are for 1 year from the date payment is made. Grafton does not offer memberships of any other length.

CAN I PAUSE MY MEMBERSHIP?

Membership is continuous and pauses in membership are not permitted. It may be possible to convert your membership to a social membership depending on the circumstances and agreement with the membership secretary.

WHAT ARE THE BAR OPENING HOURS?

The bar is open 19:00 – 23:00 Tuesdays & Wednesdays and 15:00 – 18:00 on Sundays and for other sociable events such as the 6 Nations super socials and the Fox Trophy.

DO YOU OFFER RACKET RESTRINGING?

Yes, one of the coaches and one of our members restring rackets, both tennis and squash. More details can be provided on request.

DO YOU OFFER PICKLEBALL?

Grafton does not have any pickleball courts and does not offer this sport.

ARE THERE ANY INDOOR TENNIS COUTS?

Grafton does not have any indoor tennis courts.

DO YOU OFFER PADEL?

Grafton has no padel courts and does not offer this sport.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH MY PERSONAL DATA WHEN I JOIN?

Your personal data is collected, stored and processed by Grafton Tennis and Squash Ltd in accordance with the requirements of the GDPR legislation introduced in May 2018. Our Data Privacy Policy outlines how we comply with the GDPR legislation and is available on the clubhouse noticeboard or under our Privacy Policy at https://graftontennisandsquash.com/gdpr/

WHAT TIME DOES THE CLUB OPEN AND CLOSE EVERY DAY?

Grafton is open to members 24/7/365.

IS TEHRE ONSITE PARKING FOR MEMBERS AND VISITORS?

Yes, there is a plentiful supply of free onsite parking.

IS THERE SECURE BICYCLE PARKING?

Yes, there is plentiful bicycle parking by clubhouse front door and between the back of the clubhouse and squash building.

WHAT ARE THE CHANGING ROOM AND SHOWER FACILITIES LIKE?

There are changing and shower facilities available for both men and women. The ladies facilities have been refurbished not too long ago and the mens facilities are scheduled to be refurbished in the not too distant future.

ARE HOLIDAY CAMPS OFFERED DURING THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS?

Junior camps are often runs during school holidays for both tennis and squash. Please contact the respective head coach directly for more details.

IS TEHRE ANY 'TRY BEFORE YOU JOIN' OPTIONS BEYOND SUNDAY SOCIAL?

There is currently no try before you join options other than attending Sunday social.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE IF A BOOKED COURT IS RAINED OFF?

If the weather prevents play please contact graftoncomms@gmail.com to get any black mark associated with not checking in removed from your account.

ARE LIGHTS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF MEMBERSHIP?

For tennis there is no additional charge for using the floodlights. These come on automatically based on the time of the booking.

For squash lights are token operated and each token provides 45 minutes of light. They cost £5 and can be purchased from the token machine located in the squash building.

ARE THERE FAMILY/COUPLE MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE?

While the club does not offer family memberships we do have joint memberships available.

There is where 2 people can join at a discounted rate compared to two separate memberships. Please note these are intended for couples and siblings and are only available to adults.

ARE PETS ALLOWED AT GRAFTON?

Yes, pets are welcome at the club however we do ask they are kept off the courts.

CAN NON-MEMBERS USE THE BAR WITHOUT PLAYING?

Grafton is a members only club and the bar is not open to non-members, There are some exceptions such as for members of teams playing Surrey league matches against Grafton.

WHAT IS THE LOST PROPERTY POLICY?

Any lost property found at the club is stored in boxes in the clubhouse by the patio doors. Unclaimed items are periodically donated to charity or if not donatable binned.

ARE TEHRE ANY RESTRICTIONS ON COURT TIMES FOR JUNIORS?

Juniors have the same court booking privileges as adults.
